Herzog Reflections - a photo on Flickriver

Herzog Reflections

            While aimlessly driving around looking for trains in the Atherton region, I accidentally stumbled across this unique Herzog maintenance-of-way train set sitting in the storage siding just west of town. I decided to take this perfect opportunity to get close to this train that usually likes to hide away from railfans and get an up close look at the rare set. HZGX 204, a full car body GP38M-2 rebuilt by Relco from a KCS GP40 and HZGX 215, repainted and modified from UP SD70M 4375 for MoW service are both hooked up to the set. HZGX 215 and its sister Herzog SD70Ms were purchased from Union Pacific and were specially modified with protective removable metal plates over the windows and the covering of cab controls, essentially turning them into temporary booster units.
