One of three paintings Archer St. John and editor Marion  McDermott paid Ekgren $100 to for publication rights at his stall in Greenwich Village, though never intended as a comic book cover.  

Comic historians and art lovers alike stare dumbfounded at these Ekgrens and wonder at we're looking at.  Fucking mystical, man.

Worked from a low grade but vibrant copy that sold at Heritage last weekend.
