"Canadian AC To Boot - CP 6309" - a photo on Flickriver

            Among my favorite shots from this year, a second banger is this along CPKC's MacTier Sub, with a train of unpredictable appearances.

H17 is usually ordered out of Agincourt around 9pm, meaning that it rarely makes a daytime appearance to the normal railfan. From a motive power perspective, it was all over the place. From Geeps to SD40s, ACUs to Foreign Power, anything Agincourt had lying around, was thrown onto this train. Normally, seeing this train is rare due to its nighttime runs, but there were multiple occasions where that wasn't the case, as seen here. 

July 31st was among my weekly Toronto visits, hanging out with friends, watching movies, and generally railfanning. This day was just gonna follow the normal routine: Watch CN trains on the Halton Sub in the morning. That was till i got word H17 was leaving Spence with a pair of SD60-3's (rebuilt by NRE) for Power. I decided to take the chance, and went down to Islington Ave. Waiting felt weird, since trace was broken, and the feeling of possibly being too late for it. But in the end it paid off.

Rounding the bend with loads from Spence, CPKC H17 rolls past Islington with SD60-3's 6309 and 6307 for power, still shining as ever after these years (despite being recent rebuilds before 2020). Given the hot summers, and the lack of an AC, the door on the conductors side is wide open, to at least provide a bit of a breeze. I haven't seen the SD60s as much, and this was the 2nd instance of seeing them lead a road train, which is a welcome site to me. Sometimes, i feel Islington is where i could try and get decent shots, if timing and luck is right, but who knows...
