‘The Lighthouse’ artwork in Breda by Aldo Rossi

When I was on my way to the pleasant historic city center of Breda during a walk from the central station, I was surprised to see a lighthouse in the water of the Singel just in front of the beautiful city park. It is a very striking spot for a lighthouse without a sea or a harbour. It turned out to be a creation of the visual artist and architect Aldo Rossi. It is a non-functioning lighthouse that is illuminated at night. It really is a typical creation in a strange place by Rossi that attracts plenty of attention. I had previously already uploaded a beautiful artistic building in Maastricht of him here, but this lighthouse is also a real gem of the creative artist brain. I took the photo so that it looks like the artwork stands between an open curtain of tree branches. This makes it seem as if the refined work of art is the main actor in a theater performance with the water as its stage.

Toen ik tijdens een wandeling vanaf het centrale station in Breda op weg was naar het gezellige historische stadscentrum zag ik tot mijn verassing in het water van de Singel vlak voor het prachtige stadspark een vuurtoren. Het is een zeer opvallende plek voor een vuurtoren. Het bleek een creatie te zijn van de beeldend kunstenaar en architect Aldo Rossi. Het is een niet werkende vuurtoren die 's avonds wel verlicht wordt. Het is echt een typische creatie op een vreemde plek van Rossi die volop de aandacht trekt. Ik had al eerder een mooi kunstzinnig gebouw van deze geweldenaar geupload hier, maar de vuurtoren is ook weer een echt pareltje van het creatieve kunstenaarsbrein. Ik heb de foto zo genomen dat het lijkt of het kunstwerk tussen een open gordijn van boomtakken staat. Hierdoor is het verfijnde kunstwerk de hoofdacteur in een theatervoorstelling met het water als zijn podium.
