Matera (Italy), It's a wonderful photographic set N° 2. "Red carpet" (UNESCO heritage)

Grazie all’aspetto anacronistico che li caratterizza, i vecchi rioni in tufo sono riusciti ad ospitare le più disparate produzioni cinematografiche, ricoprendo di volta in volta un ruolo diverso e centrale.
Tra le produzioni più importanti va certamente ricordata, nel 1964, quella de “Il Vangelo secondo Matteo” di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Il regista fu il primo a notare le somiglianze che accomunano i Sassi di Matera, con la Murgia Materana, agli scenari mediorientali in cui si è svolta la vita di Gesù. Questo film diede inizio ad una lunga serie di produzioni a tema religioso che hanno riguardato la nascita e la morte di Cristo. Nei decenni successivi, la città di Matera iniziò ad essere maggiormente conosciuta, divenendo set ideale per tante altre produzioni italiane e straniere, perfino hollywoodiane. Sono giunti a Matera alcuni tra i più famosi attori e registri del panorama mondiale, Richard Gere, attore in “King David” (1985), Mel Gibson, regista in “La Passione di Cristo” (2002), Catherine Hardwicke, regista di “The Nativity Story” (2006) e Morgan Freeman, attore nel remake di Ben Hur (2014).
