La gaviota que se tiñe de rosa / The seagull that turns pink

            Que la alimentación influye en la coloración de algunas especies de aves es un fenómeno ya conocido, especialmente en algunos ibíses y en los flamencos, pero en el caso de las gaviotas esto es menos frecuente.

Todo es especial en esta especie, la gaviota picofina ( Chroicocephalus genei ) tan rara, tan particular y tan dependiente del medio salino. Justamente la alimentación que le proporciona el medio salino es la responsable de ese cambio de color, que se produce a través de la ingesta de pequeños artrópodos halófilos, como Artemia salina, y de la expresión en el plumaje de los pigmentos que acompañan a estos pequeños invertebrados.

En la imagen se aprecia este fenómeno en forma de ese tinte de color rosa que podemos apreciar en el borde de ataque de las alas y en parte del cuerpo.

Everything is special in this species, the Slender-billed gull (Chroicocephalus genei) so rare, so particular and so dependent on the saline environment. Precisely the diet provided by the saline medium is responsible for this color change, which occurs through the ingestion of small halophilic arthropods, such as Artemia salina, and the expression in the pumaje of the pigments that accompany these small invertebrates.

In the image this phenomenon can be seen in the form of that pink tint that we can see on the leading edge of the wings and in part of the body.
