Class 5MT, locomotive No.45262, of Sheffield Grimesthorpe M.P.D., Shed No.19A, and built by W. G. Armstrong Whitworth and Company Ltd, Scotswood Works, Newcastle-On-Tyne, in 1936, and Class B1, locomotive No.61224, of York North MP.D., Shed No.50A, and built by North British Locomotive Company Ltd, Glasgow, in 1947, are seen here, standing on Platform No.6 loop-line, and on Platform No.6 respectively, at Sheffield Midland Station, on 14/08/1953.
Class 5MT, locomotive No.45262, was built by W. G. Armstrong Whitworth and Company Ltd, Scotswood Works, Newcastle-On-Tyne, to Works No.1317, in 1936, as Class 5, for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, and delivered, new, in October 1936, as No.5262, most probably to Sheffield Grimesthorpe M.P.D., (Shed No.19A), where it was recorded as being both, on-shed, and allocated, on 21/07/1946, and on 01/01/1948. The locomotive was transferred, from Sheffield Grimesthorpe M.P.D., (Shed No.19A), to Burton M.P.D., (Shed No.17B), on 29/01/1955, and from there, to Liverpool Brunswick M.P.D., (Shed No.27F), on 10/01/1959, and from there, to Leicester Midland M.P.D., (Shed No.15C), on 16/09/1961, and from there, to Leicester G.C. M.P.D., (Shed No.15E), on 17/03/1962, and from there, to Woodford Halse M.P.D., (Shed No.2F), on 29/09/1962, and from there, to Derby M.P.D., (Shed No.17A), on 01/12/1962, and from there, to Cricklewood East M.P.D., (Shed No.14A), on 09/03/1963, and from there, back to Derby M.P.D., (Shed No.16C), on 16/05/1964, and from there, to Burton M.P.D., (Shed No.16F), on 27/06/1964, and from there, back to Derby M.P.D., (Shed No.16C), on 14/08/1965. The final transfer was from Derby M.P.D., (Shed No.16C), to Rose Grove M.P.D., (Shed No.10F), on 05/03/1966, and here, the locomotive would remain, until withdrawn from service, on 03/08/1968. It is recorded that following withdrawal from service, that the locomotive remained in-storage, and out of use, at Carlisle Kingmoor M.P.D., (Shed No.12A), until it was despatched for disposal and it is recorded as being scrapped, at Thomas W. Ward Limited, Beighton, Sheffield, on 30/03/1969. The locomotive renumbered, as No.45262, by British Railways, on 14/08/1948.
Class B1, locomotive No.61224, was built North British Locomotive Company Ltd, Glasgow, to Order No.L963, and to Works No.26125, in 1947, as Class B1, for the London and North Eastern Railway, and delivered, new, as No.1224, to Newcastle Heaton M.P.D., (Shed Code HTN), on 15/08/1947. The locomotive was transferred, from Newcastle Heaton M.P.D., (Shed Code HTN), to Darlington M.P.D., (Shed Code DAR), on 07/11/1948, and from there, to York North M.P.D., (Shed No.50A), on 19/07/1953, and from there, back to Darlington M.P.D., (Shed No.51A), on 25/09/1955, and from there, to Leeds Neville Hill M.P.D., (Shed No.55H), on 16/06/1963. The final transfer was from Leeds Neville Hill M.P.D., (Shed No.55H), to Wakefield M.P.D., (Shed No.56A), on 07/06/1964, and here, the locomotive would remain, until withdrawn from service, on 31/07/1966. It is recorded that following withdrawal from service, that the locomotive remained in-storage, and out of use, Wakefield M.P.D., (Shed No.56A), until it was despatched for disposal, to Walter Heselwood Limited, Attercliffe, Sheffield, in September 1966, and it is recorded as being scrapped there, in December 1966. The locomotive renumbered, as No.61224, by British Railways, on 20/05/1949.
