SALT YEARS
15 Years of work in the Dead Sea,
A new book for artist Sigalit Landau
After 15 years of creating art in the Dead Sea and more than two years of writing, editing, design, and photography
photographic work from the last 15 years are collected in this in-depth publication to be seen together for the first time. Texts, photographs of new installations and documentation of the process in the Dead Sea were especially written and created. Inspired by the topographical, historical, cultural and environmental realms of the Dead Sea;‘Sigalit Landau: SALT YEARS’ invites us to embark on a personal artistic voyage. Marking Landau 15-year oeuvre and fascination with the Dead Sea, ‘Sigalit Landau: SALT YEARS’ sheds new light on the fundamental leitmotiv that underlies her multifaceted artistic creation. Offering insights to the artist's visions, this volume explores Landaus career reflecting the breadth of her oeuvre. The book is an invitation to take part in the transformative power of art and Landaus transformation of the Dead Sea into a laboratory and medium for new experiments, ideas and heart/ground breaking understandings, revealing the death-bearing to life sustaining alchemy of salt.
Born in Jerusalem in 1969, Sigalit Landau is an interdisciplinary artist who works with installation, video, photography and sculpture. One could say Landaus varied ? uvre is auto-bio-topo-graphical in as much as it deals with writing (graph), of life (bio), in a locale (topos), and writing of a locale in life. While rooted in the realm of the reality, her work carries a larger weight, exploring the transformations of the cold, hard facts of the world into beautiful, often formidable, yet tender work.
“The works which I make in the Dead Sea relates to history, found everyday objects and the body. Considering the scope of the experiences and achievements – A book is the best way to collect and to share this project. To “crystallize” a part of my story with new texts and images, archival and recent documentation.” Sigalit Landau

15 Years of work in the Dead Sea
A new book for artist Sigalit Landau
A new book by artist Sigalit Landau, which marks 15 years of making art in and around the Dead Sea.
After several long years of writing, editing, photographing, designing as well as launching a crowd-funding campaign Salt Years is here: This comprehensive publication of 400 pages [350 color, assembles for the first time the works, the processes, behind the scene and installations that were she and her team have created in video, photography, installation and especially salt coated sculptures produced through baptism in this unique lake.
, the project is culminating with an exhibition with the same title at MdM Saltzburg , designed by Michael Gordon. Works made especially for the project, documentation of studio and sea work processes, thought-provoking articles by colleagues from various fields and personal lists. The articles in the book were edited by David Goss. Landau and her partner, photographer Yotam Frum, reveal to their readers their journey inspired by the topographic, historical, biblical, cultural, political, political uniqueness of the Dead Sea. Landau explores the special processes of crystallization at sea using an artistic technique that she has developed. It mimics everyday objects treated in the studio, in the Dead Sea, and the sea breathes life into them. The statues rise above the water as belonging to another time and other laws, the change that takes place reveals the divine and eternal element of nature and, of course, the phenomena of this time.
Sigalit Landau - on the process of creating the book Salt Years: "The works we created in the Dead Sea are about biography, disappearance, separation and time. The artistic experiences and achievements of this lake have been made in different periods and in diverse mediums - the way we, Yotam and I, have chosen to work out the last 15 years and share our experiences and views is through a book. "Formulating" some of the stories through texts, archival photos and new postings. Bringing to the "Salt Years" pattern was a major challenge, thanks to the support of fortuitous friends, supporters, and art lovers.
The book "Salt Years" was published in English in collaboration with German publisher Hatje Kantz in the 400-page book. About 350 of them are color images, the book's articles are available in Hebrew and German in separate booklets.
