***Cup of Night

            One evening while strolling with my eyes and camera feasting on the shadows and lights along the corridors and canals of Venice, I came upon this beautiful archway where a bistro claimed the lane.  The contours of the ceiling enhanced the voices within as laughter and bantering swirled about.

The vapour lamps lit this stage and while I perched in the shadows, a voice called out with this invitation.

"Ahoy my friend"
A voice beckons from within
"While you're standing there enjoying your camouflage 
Come and join us for a cup of night!"

So I ventured in and learned to juggle mismatched metaphors and mixed up phrases from 2 or 3 languages to get our points across.  We drank espresso and laughed an hour away.  It was a strange and satisfying conversation that often returns to my imagination.

"ah Venice,
Until one arrives
One can only imagine that such a kingdom exists
Yet once you enter these gates, 
you are never a stranger again"

So I give another ode to one of the cities I love dearest.  Venice always seems to draw me back like a grand lady of opulent theatre.  And if get I another ticket, I'll eagerly arrive  to watch another play.
