A sidelight on the Spotmatic - a photo on Flickriver

            Macro Mondays: "Sidelit"
In 1960 the Asahi Optical Company presented a camera prototype  with a through-the-lens spot-metering system at the Photokina in Cologne: the SPOT-MATIC. Four years of development passed before the Asahi Pentax Spotmatic finally went into production as an SLR with a system for taking an INTEGRATED through-the-lens light-reading by means of measuring-cells to the left and right of the eye-piece. It sold in huge numbers for the Tokyo Olympic Games - there was a special commemoration camera-case - and it was presented to the world at the 1964 Photokina. A friend of mine, who was working for Agfa at the time, visited the Photokina and came back with this tie-clip, which he passed on to me many years ago. It's a treasured item in my Pentax collection.

Takumar pre-set 105mm f:2.8 Model I  (1958-61, filter-thread 46mm)

On the camera:
It can only be the Super Takumar 50mm f:1.4 Model I (8 aperture blades)!!! This was a lens that caused a sensation when it was presented, and firmly established Asahi Optical as one of the world's leading lens manufacturers.

Taken by a Super-Multi-Coated MACRO-TAKUMAR 1:4/100 via M-42 screw-mount adapter on the Sony a7C .
