IJmuiden, the low iron lighthouse - a photo on Flickriver

            De lage vuurtoren was oorspronkelijk even hoog als de hoge vuurtoren. 
In 1909 zijn er echter drie verdiepingen + lichthuis er afgehaald en verplaatst naar Vlieland. Daar doet deze dienst als zelfstandige vuurtoren.
Reden van verplaatsing en verlaging: de pieren zijn langer geworden en de binnenkomende schepen kunnen gemakkelijker via de lichten-lijn binnenvaren.
Op het onderstuk is een nieuw lichthuis geplaatst tot 1966. Dat stuk staat nu in Velsen-Noord (zie volgende foto)..
