Short-eared Owl - Relaxed Expression

            I think this is my 'Owl luck' used up for the entire winter all in one go now!
Today was one of those very grey and mizzley days. Should I head out in the half-light of early afternoon or not?.... plenty to be getting on with at home. No. I must go. Though it was cold and damp it kind of felt like real owl weather.... not really raining just very damp air. It was going to have to be a straight 600, no converter day.
So after a long walk there was not much to see but then suddenly a 'shortie' was airborne.
It came in my general direction but then I lost sight of it.....suddenly I saw it through the gloom on a post only 100 yds away and with prey. As you do, take a photo immediately.... I then slowly edged a little closer, more images taken.... closer.... more images. Obviously it knew I was there.... kept staring at me, but as it had prey it was more interested in eating. Bit by bit I managed to get within 30-40 yards of it, by which time it had finished eating and devoured the vole whole. Still looking directly at me it began preening. I didn't want to push my luck any further so started to 'film' it. I must have remained there for a few minutes before it eventually took flight. I will post the video clip later.
