Die Alte Nationalgalerie im Berliner Ortsteil Mitte gehört zum Bauensemble der Museumsinsel und damit zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO.

Das Gebäude der Alten Nationalgalerie vereinigt architektonische Elemente verschiedener Gebäudetypen. Die Giebelfassade und die umlaufenden Halbsäulen sind einem Tempel entlehnt, das monumentale Treppenhaus einem Schloss oder Theater und die angehängte Apsis einer Kirche. In dieser Kombination sollte das Gebäude architektonisch die Einheit von Nation, Geschichte und Kunst verdeutlichen.
