'Shaken not Stirred' - enjoying 'High Speed Flash Photography' with Conwy Camera Club, North Wales

            I purposely joined my local camera club two years ago, to  improve my photography by not only trying and learning new skills but also to draw on other members' considerable knowledge and experience.  

Throughout the year varied practical workshops are run. November 2022's was 'High Speed Flash Photography'  - something I'd never tried before. 

This was the result - taken to my utmost pleasure first time!

The Club has specialists in wide ranging subjects and this was run by those fascinated by building unique prototype props and working models to further experiment with and enjoy this exciting genre! I'm hooked now too!

So how was this done you might ask...I'll now explain...

My camera was fixed to a tripod tilted at an angle of 30 degrees parallel to the sloping model. Flash was disabled with a 2 second exposure time delay with my Tamron 28 - 300mm lens pre-focused at 89mm. 

The prop, still used, comprises 3 wine glasses fixed to a thick  moving glass tray secured by two clamps and cords attached to a release mechanism. 

Once released, the tray rapidly slides down a supporting slope hitting a button at the end that operates the 'High Speed Flash Gun' contained within the prop's background white light box. 

Upon impact, the coloured liquid is thrown backwards from the glasses into the air creating these swirls. 

Arrival equates to a 'Bang' signalling when to shoot! Rapid reaction needed! 

All was good!
