The 'Central Massif' of the Isle of Skye Scotland - 22.9.2016

            Skye is vast and is Scotland's second largest island covering 639 square miles. The coastline is a series of peninsulas and bays radiating out from its 'Central Massif' - pictured here from the Northern Summit -  of the Quaraing - itself a spectacular series of rock pinnacles on the Eastern side of its Northern Trotternish Peninsula. 

Beyond the Ouiraing (immediate foreground), to the right centre (11 miles distant) is the rock pillar of the Old Man of Storr. Beyond are the dominant Cuillin Hills - a range of rocky mountains with the farthest peak some 20 miles distant.

The main Cuillin ridge is also known as the 'Black Cuillins' and includes 12 Munros - providing some of the most dramatic and challenging mountain terrain in Scotland. A Munro is defined as a Scottish Mountain with a height of over 3,000 feet (914.4 metres).

The view of the Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr is one of the 'Most Iconic' in all of Scotland and is frequently used on calendars, tourism guides and brochures. Clearly I can see why!
