Castle Eltz

            Eltz Castle is a 12th century hilltop castle and one of the most famous of its kind in Germany. Owned by the noble Eltz family for more than 800 years, the structure has been largely preserved. Like Bürresheim Castle and Lissingen Castle, it is one of the fortifications in the Eifel that have never been forcibly conquered. The castle is open to the public and is a popular destination for excursions.

Burg Eltz ist eine Höhenburg aus dem 12. Jahrhundert und eine der bekanntesten ihrer Art in Deutschland. Seit mehr als 800 Jahren im Besitz der Adelsfamilie Eltz, ist das Bauwerk weitgehend erhalten. Es gehört wie das Schloss Bürresheim und die Burg Lissingen zu den Befestigungsanlagen in der Eifel, die nie gewaltsam erobert wurden. Die Burg ist öffentlich zugänglich und ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel.
