I’d hoped to go out last night for the Milky Way but cloud wasn’t forecast to clear in time. Also the location was over an hour’s drive away and I’d got some shots from the night before so I decided to give it a miss and hope I’d get another chance before the season basically finishes.. 

Instead I thought I’d get out for sunrise at Banjo Pier in Swanage. It’s around now that the sun rises in line with the pier and although I expected it was a week or so early I thought I’d give it a go as weather forecasts for the week ahead were not great for sunrise in Swanage. Forecast for this morning didn’t fill me with great optimism for a colourful sky but decided I should make the effort. So an 03:45am alarm call (Yes….. 03:45 Dom!😉) and just time to get dressed and may a coffee to take with me and I was off with ELO on Spotify and Google Maps and Radarbot to keep me company. Dorset have a habit of tucking speed cameras into places where they are not as visible as some places.

Once at the pier it was evident there would be no Blue Hour pyrotechnics in the sky but having made the effort thought I’d shoot the pier anyway. Got some shots and I’d just called it a day and put the camera away when I saw the sun glinting through a small gap in the clouds so thought I’d get the camera back out and glad I did!

I managed to get one of my ‘trademark’ sun-stars although it got a bit too obscured the moment it was behind the vertical pole. 

Another of the images was from one of the very occasional waves that hit the pier in such a way that water went over the railings. There were not many decent wayes and I was experimenting with shutter speeds with this one being on the slower end but think it gives a sense of movement.

Got some more compositions from Banjo but think I should get back to my Peak District images…and maybe the Milky Way. Have to keep an eye on the forecast as the sunrise here is one of the shots on my hit-list.
