Blowing off the cobwebs - a photo on Flickriver

Apart from my Puffin trip and a couple of astro shoots I haven't been out for a sunrise since Cornwall back in May. I'd hoped to get the Milky Way this week but the forecast was iffy and I am trying to save some fuel costs ahead of long trips in September and October. After the MW shot got knocked on the head I was thinking about going out this morning for sunrise but could not decide where and in the end it was getting late so I decided to just go to bed and not worry about it. 
Next think I know I came awake and glanced at the clock - 03:48. I turned over to try to sleep again but my mind was already going so I knew I wouldn't get back to sleep. I decided to get up and from last night knew there was supposed to be a band of medium & high cloud around so had thought there was a chance of a bit of colour pre-dawn. I thought I might have enough time to get down to Gosport to shoot the Spinnaker Tower. I knew I could get an angle on it close to where the sun was rising which at this time of year is still to the north so a lot of the south coast is not at it's best. 

I thought I'd set off too late but managed to find a car park nearby which was free until 8am. I was a bit worried though when I saw a little Fiat 500 in the corner with all it's doors open and no one in it!! With some trepidation as to what I'd find I set off the short distance and quickly set up. I tried different exposure times and would have preferred a LE for the sea but the boats were moving too much for any composite to be easy to blend. This is therefore a single exposure with some shadow lifting. The colour in the sky is as accurate as I can make it and not a sky replacement!

Anyway, sorry for the ramblings but not having shot a sunrise (or much of anything) over the summer I definitely felt like I was blowing off the cobwebs on the shoot today. I make no claims for originality in the composition but I've not shot the Spinnaker Tower before so that's all that matters to me.
