Thanks to Sue-Ellieanor www.flickr.com/photos/187079161@N03/ for spotting my Google induced mistake! The above structure is not 'The Pepperpot' as that stands on the cliff nearby. This is known (with typical Cornish humour) as The Monkey Hut or The Monkey House! The original structure got badly damaged during a series of storms Dec 2013-March 2014 which resulted in a significant amount of repairs being needed and a new Monkey Hut/House was part of that.

Some days as a Tog you just have to throw your plan out the window or at least put it on hold for a bit! I had been shooting at Basset Cove and was on my way the Chapel Porth when I was driving down the hill towards Portreath. Suddenly between some buildings I saw the lighthouse against the turquoise sea and just had to stop to explore. I managed to nab a free on-street spot on the hill and set off to explore. I took a few different compositions at different focal lengths and may share some more of these. Unfortunately the wall had a metal barrier on it so even if I had found a way to climb up I'd not have got the shot I wanted. I therefore contented myself with setting up on the edge of the car park so I could shoot down across the beach as that allowed me to get the lighthouse below the horizon. I then experimented with different shutter speeds and took a few shots at each to cover different wave formations. I rather liked this one for the colours (even though it was taken outside the sacred Golden Hour/Blue Hour periods) and simplicity. Not saying it might not look better at sunset but I think it shows you don't always need to go B&W if you take a photo in bright sunlight.
