Scientific name: Pardalotus punctatus
🌍 Location: Southeast Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺

ℹ️Info
Pardalotes are very small Australian birds (around 6 grams!), with short tails and short stubby bills. They spend most of their time feeding in treetops, which is why they are heard more often than seen. They feed on a variety of insects and most importantly, lerp, a sweet waxy secretion crystalised on the leaves of eucalyptus trees. Lerp is produced by the larvae of jumping plant lice as a protective cover.

Of the two main types of pardalote, the Spotted Pardalote is more colourful with intricate feather markings and spots. It is migratory in Southeast Queensland where I took this shot, so I hope to make the best of their stay this year.
