Mao Zedong

Mao Zedong (1893-1976) is the father of the Chinese Communist Revolution. I can remember being told in high school in the 1970s that this revolution was going to be different from the others. We were handed out "Little Red Schoolbooks" and were trained to think in revolutionary terms. "True socialism has never been tried, except in China where it was a true peasants revolution."

Oh how naïve The West has become in its dotage. Mao must have chuckled as Western leaders fell over themselves to kowtow to Beijing. The blood shed in the Cultural Revolution of 1966-76 (a purge of dissidents that would have made Stalin blush) was still freshly being spilt as Nixon and Whitlam of Australia paid homage. Meanwhile the annexation of Tibet only foreshadowed the genocide being carried out that persists to this day against the Muslim Uighurs. These are people who deserve our support. Vive la liberté!
