Private Jetty - a photo on Flickriver

Private Jetty

            Peacock's Jetty was built as one of 23 private structures on this section of the Derwent early in the 20th century. It is the last survivor. The first jetty was washed away in the 1930s and this one dates from 1940. The gate was locked at this time of the morning, but it would have been fun to take a walk down that gangway and get a closer look. Much of Sandy Bay today is completely modernised and very expensive. So it is nice to be reminded of simpler times.
