Harland Rise - a photo on Flickriver

Harland Rise

Just a few kilometres east of Evandale we come to the property bought 8 years ago by retired sheep farmers, Peter and Claire Blackwood. They still run it as a small farming interest, but right now they are in the midst of renovating some of the old buildings (including the original chapel) for tourist accommodation.

This house looked perfect in the late morning sun. Built around 1850 and clearly influenced by the latest in Victorian architectural fashions, Harland Rise is a treasure. You need to enlarge this shot and take a look at those original ceramic chimney pots. Can you see the little hearts on the crowns? At once whimsical and practical, these (and the fine timberwork) show all the hallmarks of what would later be called the Arts and Crafts Movement.
