San Francisco Antebellum Home - a photo on Flickriver

            This is the second entry in my series of Louisiana antebellum homes. San Francisco antebellum home is located on the River Road in Garyville, Louisiana in St. John the Baptist Parish about forty miles west of New Orleans. San Francisco was built between 1853 and 1856. It was declared a National Historic Monument in 1974. It is purportedly named after the original owner’s son. San Francisco is built in the Steamboat Gothic architectural style. This type of architecture is extremely elaborate with vibrant colors and is primarily found in the American South. San Francisco has ornate windows, doors and roof. It resembles the riverboats found on the nearby Mississippi River. It is approximately 11,000 square feet. Sadly, San Francisco is closing to the public at the end of this year.
