Das Nikolaifleet ist ein Fleet in Hamburg und war früher der Hauptmündungsarm der Alster in die Elbe. Hier begann 1188 die Entwicklung des Hamburger Hafens, und bis ins 19. Jahrhundert wurden hier auf dem Wasserwege Waren in die Speicher umgeschlagen. Mit Entstehung der Speicherstadt verlor dieser Teil des Hafens an Bedeutung.

Nach dem Hamburger Brand, der am 5. Mai 1842 in einem nahe dem Nikolaifleet gelegenen Haus an der Deichstraße ausbrach, wurde die Hamburger Altstadt weitgehend umgestaltet, unter anderem um Platz für ein neues Rathaus und den Rathausmarkt zu schaffen. Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Hauptabfluss der Alster in das durchgehend schiffbare Alsterfleet umgeleitet. Am Südende des Nikolaifleets liegt zwischen Holzbrücke und Hoher Brücke der letzte erhaltene Fleetabschnitt mit der typischen althamburgischen Bebauung. Die schmalen, hohen Fleetfronten der Außendeichhäuser an der Deichstraße stehen hier denen von vier erhaltenen Speichern am Cremon schräg gegenüber.

The Nikolaifleet is a canal in Hamburg and was formerly the main branch of the Alster River that flows into the Elbe. The development of the Port of Hamburg began here in 1188, and until the 19th century, goods were transshipped to the warehouses by water. With the creation of the Speicherstadt (Warehouse District), this part of the port declined in importance.

After the Hamburg Fire, which broke out on May 5, 1842, in a house on Deichstraße near the Nikolaifleet, Hamburg's old town was extensively redesigned, among other things to make room for a new town hall and the Rathausmarkt (town hall market). At the end of the 19th century, the main outflow of the Alster River was diverted into the continuously navigable Alsterfleet. At the southern end of the Nikolaifleet, between the Holzbrücke and Hohe Brücke (Town Bridge), lies the last remaining section of the canal with typical old Hamburg buildings. The narrow, high canal fronts of the outer dike houses on Deichstraße stand diagonally opposite those of four preserved warehouses on Cremon.
