            The Irish grey squirrel, also known as the Eastern grey squirrel is an invasive species in Ireland. They have had a significant impact on native red squirrel population through disease transmission. Grey squirrels are larger and more aggressive than red ones. Various methods are in place to manage the grey squirrel population, including trapping and culling, as well as efforts to protect and restore habitat for red squirrels. Grey squirrels are notorious for burrowing little holes and hiding their nuts and seeds in various locations for later consumption. They often forget where they've hidden them, leading to the growth of new trees and plants in unexpected places, so they do some good.  🌸
