Fire Control Bunker, Lavernock, Vale of Glamorgan 16 July 2025

            During WW2, a gun and searchlight battery was installed in the site of Lavernock Fort, built in the 1860s. The WW2 battery was part of the “Fixed Defences, Severn Scheme” which protected the Atlantic shipping convoy de-grouping zone between Cardiff, Barry and Flat Holm. The control bunker, gun emplacements and accommodation bunkers are a designated Ancient Monument, although all are suffer badly from graffiti.
