Redwing, Monmouthshire-Brecon Canal, Forgehammer, Cwmbran 3 March 2018

            Another day, another redwing (Turdus iliacus). I found this one further down the canal than yesterday, at Forgehammer. He was darting from tree to tree near the water’s edge, digging around the bases for food. 

Redwings are winter visitors, arriving from September and overwintering until around March, although a very few pairs will nest in Britain. They are the smallest member of the thrush family in Britain.
