Opel Rekord L, White Park Bay, Antrim, Northern Ireland 1977

Inspired by the central character's General Motors Holden Kingswood in 'The Brokenwood Mysteries' I dug this picture out of my archives.

I bought this 1967 Opel Rekord in 1975, second hand, on a posting to Germany, then took it to Northern Ireland when posted there - rather conspicuous in Ulster, a left hand drive vehicle, even though I substituted the military BFG plates for UK plates the previous owner had left in the boot from a UK posting. This was an extremely comfortable saloon with a cavernous boot; on posting I was able to take all my kit with me rather than send it via the Military Freight Organisation (MFO). With the wisdom of age, I probably wouldn't have taken it to 1970s Ulster though.

When I eventually scrapped it, I kept the radiator badge:
