            Seit dem ersten Covid Lockdown in 2020 versuche ich meinen Garten nach und nach vogelfreundlicher zu gestalten. Damit das nicht zu einseitig wird ist aber auch ein kleines Fleckchen (3m2) für Insekten reserviert, wo eine wilde Mischung aus Blumen ungestört wachsen darf. Dieses Jahr ist zum ersten mal der Gewöhnliche Natternkopf dabei, der wohl besonders viel Nektar liefert und bei Bienen sehr beliebt sein soll. Ganz überraschend für mich stellt sich seit ein paar Wochen heraus, dass Spatzen und Grünfinken dessen Samen lieben. Streckenweise sitzen gleich 5 oder mehr Finken in den Blumen und lassen sich eine halbe Stunde beim fressen kaum stören. Bei so einer Gelegenheit entstand dieses Foto. Das ist doch mal eine schöne Win-Win Situation: Insekten glücklich, Vögel glücklich, Fotograf glücklich :-)  Apropos ungestört wachsen: der Natternkopf wird bei mir 1,80m hoch. Es passt also wohl nicht einfach in ein kleines Blumenbeet. 

Since the first Covid lockdown in 2020, I've been trying to make my garden more bird-friendly. To avoid it becoming too one-sided, a small patch (3m2) is reserved for insects, where a wild mixture of flowers can grow undisturbed. This year, for the first time, the common viper's bugloss is there, which apparently provides a particularly high amount of nectar and bees love it. Quite surprisingly for me, it has turned out in the last few weeks that sparrows and Green Finches also love its seeds. Sometimes, 5 or more finches are sitting in the flowers and are hardly disturbed while they feed for half an hour. This photo was taken on such an occasion. I call this a nice win-win situation: Insects are happy, birds are happy, photographer is happy. :-)
Speaking of viper's bugloss: the herb grows to a height of 1.80m in my garden, so it probably won't fit easily into a little flowerbed.
