Kormoran / Cormorant - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Kormorane ziehen seit Januar schon wieder durch nach Norden. Es gibt deshalb gerade ziemlich viele bei mir in Süd-Hessen. Den Kormoran auf dem Foto habe ich zwischen zwei Tauchgängen fotografiert. Er ist gerade aufgetaucht, sein Rumpf ist noch in eine Blase aus Wasser eingehüllt. In der Nacht hatte es noch gefroren, das Wasser ist wärmer und eine dünne Nebeldecke liegt auf dem See. Wenn der Kormoran aus dem Wasser auftaucht sieht es manchmal so aus, als ob er dampft. Kurze Momente von magischer Schönheit.

The cormorants have been migrating north again since January. That's why there are quite a few of them in southern Hesse right now. I caught the cormorant in the photo between two dives. He has just surfaced, his torso still enveloped in a bubble of water. It was still freezing at night, the water is warmer and there is a thin blanket of fog on the lake. When the cormorant emerges from the water it sometimes looks as if it is steaming. Short moments of magical beauty.
