Hyena with a Bone

            The Hyena Clan 

We left camp just after sunrise.  There hadn’t been much activity coming through on the radio so we just drove around with the hope that we may stumble upon something and indeed we did.  We spotted an area where some vultures were gathering in the trees and decided to take a closer look at what might be going on.  As we got closer we saw a couple of cautious hyenas approaching a carcass that had been carefully placed at the foot of a tree.  The number of hyenas increased and we saw the back end of a lone lion make a hasty retreat chased by the clan.  The hyenas then enjoyed their reward squabbling amongst themselves as to who should enjoy their spoils first.  This interaction and that with the gathering crowds of vultures was really interesting to watch and we spent a good 2-3 hours watching the carcass slowly disappear.
