The Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford upon Avon. Warwickshire

            The first theatre, then known as the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre, opened on April 19th 1879 and was built in a highly fanciful Victorian Gothic style.
It was gutted by fire on 6 March 1926. The new Shakespeare Memorial Theatre opened in 1932 on a site adjacent to the original. The architect was Elisabeth Scott, so the theatre became the first important building erected in Britain from the designs of a woman architect. It has many notable Art Deco features and incorporates part of the original theatre that was partially rebuilt and is now used as the Swan Theatre.
From 2007 the building was yet again largely rebuilt and reimagined and opened in 2010 with a new 'one-room' style theatre space seating 1040+, a new rooftop restaurant and bar and a riverside cafe and terrace. The new 36 metre high tower (118ft) provides air circulation and has a viewing chamber.
