Gru coronata grigia (Balearica regulorum).
La gru coronata grigia è alta circa 1 m, pesa 3,5 kg e ha un'apertura alare di 2 m.
Il piumaggio del corpo è prevalentemente grigio.
Le ali sono prevalentemente bianche ma contengono piume con una gamma di colori, con una caratteristica macchia nera nella parte superiore.
La testa ha una corona di rigide piume dorate.
I lati del viso sono bianchi e c'è una sacca gonfiabile rosso brillante nella gola.
Il becco è relativamente corto e grigio e le zampe sono nere.
Hanno zampe lunghe per camminare tra l'erba.
I piedi sono grandi, ma snelli, adatti all'equilibrio piuttosto che alla difesa o alla presa.
I sessi sono simili, anche se i maschi tendono a essere leggermente più grandi.
Le gru più giovani sono più grigie degli adulti, con una faccia color camoscio piumata.

Grey crowned crane (Balearica regulorum).
The grey crowned crane stands about 1 m tall, weighs 3.5 kg and has a wingspan of 2 m.
The body plumage is predominantly grey.
The wings are predominantly white but contain feathers in a range of colours, with a distinctive black spot on the upperside.
The head has a crown of stiff golden feathers.
The sides of the face are white and there is a bright red inflatable pouch in the throat.
The bill is relatively short and grey and the legs are black.
They have long legs for walking in grass.
The feet are large but slender, adapted for balance rather than defense or grasping.
The sexes are similar, although males tend to be slightly larger.
Younger cranes are greyer than adults, with a feathered buff-coloured face.
