Sunset at Storulfossen - a photo on Flickriver

            There are a few things in life I’m always drawn to. This scene is an obvious one. Laughter is another. And then there is dogs. Even if I’ve lived more than half my life outside of the British Isles I’ve kept the British love of dogs close to my heart. I remember a movie once where an Upper class lady was explaining to her American teenage granddaughter about the British, “Darling we only show our emotions to dogs and horses” she claimed. So when another photographer showed up and he had a wonderful White Swiss shepherd dog in tow I just had to go over and say hello to this new person, and their dog. Miko, the dog, was super friendly even if his size could scare a few people. Within minutes he was dropping his toy at my feet, waiting for me to play fetch with him. Again. And again. His owner told me that he won’t stop as he loves it and turned affectionately towards his dog. As soon as I saw the owner’s profile the penny dropped. I’d seen this face before from the side. “You’re Klaus” I said, “From Flickr” remembering his Flickr profile picture. I think he was taken back somewhat but yes, it was Klaus from Flickr. There are a few people I really, really admire here in the Flickr world with Klaus being right up there. His intimate landscape shots are amazing and inspirational, and here I was standing talking to him! “Dom, it’s Klaus!” I shouted. I had to repeat myself over the noise of the waterfall but soon Dom came over to us to see what I was so excited about.

How random that we would bump into someone we know whilst here in the middle of nowhere? After having a bit of a chinwag we separated apart in the same area, with Klaus off to the right of me and Dom down at the base of the waterfalls. We met up later when the sun had set, walking back to where we had parked our car talking about everything and nothing. Of course Miko was always dancing around our feet, dropping his toy and innocently looking up at all of us to see who would throw it for him. Friends, dogs, waterfalls and sunsets. It doesn’t get much better.
