A jammy dodger and a K-Pop concert - a photo on Flickriver

            We must have spent at least an hour pointing our cameras out to sea. Though this photo might not show it, it was blowing quite strong so we had taken shelter behind the lighthouse (OK beach hut) that is in my previous photo here on Flickr. We watched as weather front after front moved slowly northwards, curtains of rain hammering down on anything that came in their paths. Now and then a bolt of lightning would make us shout over the wind to each other "Did you see that one?". Sadly there was no pattern to where the bolts would strike. One time way off to our left, and then minutes later somewhere more towards the north. Sometimes you can "guessimate" where they might appear but this evening that was a useless endeavour. We talked about those light sensitive devices that you can attach to your camera that would trigger the shutter as soon as lightning appeared but as I'm not really into storm chasing it wasn't worth the cost. Plus also, where would I get my hands on one right at this time? :D I could have slapped on a 10-stop ND filter, dragging out my shutter time to 30 seconds or longer in the hope that lightning would appear in that time window but with the wind as it was, any chance of no camera shake was nigh on impossible.

So imagine my joy when I had just turned my camera northwards to get a shot of these two rather unique lighthouses (at least I think they are, I'm not sure if I'm honest), and in that split second as I waited for the picture to appear on the back of my camera I must have gone through at least 10 stages of emotions. Did I get that bolt or not? As soon as I saw that streak of white on the screen I was fist pumping the air - what a jammy dodger! Now some might not know what a jammy dodger is.... It's actually a British biscuit filled with jam and part of the tea drinking culture that is associated with the British isles. It's also slang for a lucky person. In this case a very lucky person, me! I couldn't believe it, the perfect timing of pressing my shutter just then resulted in me capturing this shot. After much fist pumping I might have squealed quite a bit. Sort of like a teenage Korean girl at her first K-Pop concert I imagine.... Poor Dom's ears....
