Catching word that a crew for K444 was on duty, I quickly made my way to Lawrenceville & ended up sitting near the TDSI facility for most of the day due to this engine. Canadian National 2431 is a rare GE C40-8M cowl unit that was making a even rarer appearance in the south. Not having ever shot one of these engines before, it naturally caught my attention, especially considering that a lot of them have already been sold for scrap. Knowing that it would have to lead south to at least Atlanta since there was no way to turn it until it got to Howell, I didn't want to take any chances with it getting put in a trailing position since the remainder of these engines that are left running are despised by the crews & don't have PTC, meaning that as of April 1st, 2021, they can't lead a train in the USA. With this being very likely the final time one of these would lead a train in the south, I ended up waiting until about 4:30pm until the crew arrived. Having to run around the TDSI facility to start assembling their train, I set up at the north end of facility to capture this shot of the light power move around the yard with just enough light left in the day to pull off a shot.

I fought at the time that this would end being the only shot I'd ever get of one of these things leading. Little did I know of how big a shit show would follow this train over the next two days. 1-1-21
