            Der Haussperling (Passer domesticus) – auch Spatz oder Hausspatz genannt – ist eine Vogelart aus der Familie der Sperlinge (Passeridae) und einer der bekanntesten und am weitesten verbreiteten Singvögel. Der Spatz hat sich vor über 10.000 Jahren als Kulturfolger dem Menschen angeschlossen. Nach zahlreichen absichtlichen oder versehentlichen Einbürgerungen ist er mit Ausnahme der Tropen und weniger anderer Gebiete fast überall anzutreffen, wo Menschen sich das ganze Jahr aufhalten. Der weltweite Bestand wird auf etwa 500 Millionen Individuen geschätzt. Nach deutlichen Bestandsrückgängen in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts vor allem im Westen Mitteleuropaswurde die Art in einigen Regionen auf die Vorwarnliste bedrohter Arten aufgenommen.
