Pipevine butterfly chrysalis - a photo on Flickriver

            This is the emerald-green coloration variant which is much less common compared to the cryptic brown coloration, at least in our backyard. I can't help but see a great similarity of the head capsule to Bart Simpson's visage!  The caterpillars enter into this stage from late April through early June.  These won't hatch out until the following spring. The threads holding the upper part of the chrysalis are attached to fine mesh of threads laid down over the supporting surface.
