Des élastiques en guise de mise - a photo on Flickriver

            Ambalavao (Madagascar) - Sur cette photo les enfants ne jouent pas d’argent… Mais des élastiques. N’étant pas joueur, je n’ai pas compris les règles.
Ces jeunes sont un peu à l’écart du marché. Je me m’approche avec prudence. Ils ne m’accordent qu’un vague regard, trop absorbés par le jeu. Je reste quelques minutes à les observer pour qu’ils s’habituent à ma présence. Je cherche aussi le meilleur angle pour prendre ma photo sans les perturber. 
Je n’ai pas d’autre solution que choisir la focale la plus courte (équivalent 25 mm) et de tendre mon boîtier à bout de bras au-dessus de leurs têtes. 
J’ai pris une première photo où ils ont la tête plongée dans les dés et les élastiques. Je me dis qu’il faut au moins une image où je vois leurs yeux pour apporter un peu d’humanité. 
Comme ils sont toujours plongés dans le jeu, je crie : « Coucou les enfants… ». Quelques têtes se lèvent. Je déclenche au hasard. Si j’avais utilisé l’écran de contrôle la photo aurait été mieux cadrée. Malgré cette imperfection, elle me convient. 
Ils m’ont remercié pour cette photo, mais n’ont pas demandé à la voir. Et ils se sont replongés dans le jeu. Moi, je me suis éloigné.


Elastics as a setting

Ambalavao (Madagascar) - In this photo the children are not playing for money… but rubber bands.
These young people are a bit removed from the market. I approached. They only give me a vague glance, too engrossed in the game. I spend a few minutes watching them closely to get them used to my presence. I'm also looking for the best angle to take my photo without disturbing them.
I had no other solution than to choose the shortest focal length (25mm equivalent) and stretch my camera out at arm's length above their heads.
I took a first photo where their heads are immersed in the game. I tell myself that you need at least one image where I see their eyes to add some humanity.
As they are always immersed in the game, I shout: “Hello children…”. A few heads stand up. I trigger at random. If I had used the monitor the picture would have been better framed. Despite this imperfection, it suits me.

Still, they thanked me for this photo, but didn't ask me to see it. And they got back into the game. I moved away.
