La jeune fille de Négombo - a photo on Flickriver

            Négombo (Sri Lanka) - Je longeais à pied le canal hollandais qui mène à la lagune de Négombo. Le chemin est parsemé de cabanes rudimentaires où vivent des familles de pêcheurs. 
Pour la troisième journée consécutive j’avais photographié le retour des bateaux de pêche et l’intense activité qui règne sur cette partie du littoral. 
Je me pressais car j’avais réservé une barque à moteur pour une balade sur cette merveilleuse lagune dont une partie des rives est habitée par des populations de condition modeste. 
Je n’étais plus très loin de la route goudronnée, lorsque j’ai été attiré par une baraque en bois peinte en bleu. Je me suis arrêté un instant et j'allais renoncer à la photographier car il ne semblait y avoir personne aux alentours pour donner une touche de vie à cette hypothétique image. 
C’est à ce moment que la jeune fille est sortie de la cabane. Elle était jolie et souriante. Je lui ai montré mon appareil photo en guise de demande d'autorisation. Sans un mot elle a attaché ses cheveux et s’est placée d’elle même, devant l’ouverture sans porte de sa maison.
Ma femme qui m’accompagnait lui a donné une petite bague en argent achetée au cours de notre voyage qui prenait fin. A voir son visage s’illuminer, je me suis demandé si c'était la première fois que cette jeune fille recevait un cadeau ?

The young girl from Negombo

Negombo (Sri Lanka) - I walked along the Dutch canal which leads to the Negombo lagoon. The path is dotted with rudimentary huts where fishing families live.
For the third day in a row, I photographed the return of the fishing boats and the intense activity that reigns on this part of the coast.
I was in a hurry because I had booked a motor boat for a ride on this wonderful lagoon, part of the shores of which are inhabited by people of modest means.
I was no longer far from the asphalt road when I was drawn to a wooden shack painted blue. I paused for a moment and was going to give up because there didn't seem to be anyone around to breathe life into this hypothetical photo.
It was then that the young girl came out of the cabin smiling. She was pretty. I showed him my camera as a request for permission. Wordlessly, she tied her hair and stood in front of the doorless opening of her house.
My wife, who was accompanying me, gave him a small silver ring bought during our ending trip. Seeing her face light up, I wondered if this was the first time this young girl had received a present?
