Prien am Chiemsee

            Prien liegt im oberbayerischen Landkreis Rosenheim direkt am Chiemsee. Der Name Prien leitet sich von der keltischen Bezeichnung für den Fluss Prien (Brigenna – „Die aus den Bergen Kommende“) ab. 
Mit der Eröffnung der Bahnstrecke Rosenheim–Salzburg im Jahre 1860 und der allgemeinen Öffnung des Königsschlosses Herrenchiemsee 1886 wurde das Zeitalter des Fremdenverkehrs eingeläutet. Die Chiemsee-Schifffahrt, deren Haupthafen Prien ist, wurde ausgebaut, Hotels und Fremdenpensionen entstanden.
Seit dem 6. November 2018 ist Prien Fair-Trade-Stadt.

Prien is located in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim directly on Lake Chiemsee. The name Prien is derived from the Celtic name for the river Prien (Brigenna - "The coming of the mountains").
With the opening of the railway line Rosenheim-Salzburg in 1860 and the general opening of the Royal Castle Herrenchiemsee 1886, the era of tourism was heralded. The Chiemsee-Schifffahrt, whose main port is Prien, has been expanded, and hotels and guest houses have been built.
Since November 6, 2018 Prien is fair trade city.
