Not Wanting To Spoil Christmas - a photo on Flickriver

            Whilst the majority of people were enjoying their Christmas food and drink, many on the railway remained hard at work taking advantage of the lack of service trains to perform vital maintenance on the permanent way.

At Acton Bridge a large team of workers were busy throughout the Christmas period on drainage works in and around the station.

Once again, GB Railfreight had provided Class 60s (as opposed to Class 66s) to work the engineering trains with 021 and 096 the locos on double time.

60021 "Penyghent" is seen with a rake of ballast wagons in the possession on Christmas Day.
