As mentioned in the previous shot's caption, one of the recognisable parts of the QE2 is her funnel. Here it can be seen illuminated against the early dawn sky.

What sits underneath? When originally built she was fitted out with a steam turbine propulsion system with three boilers, heated by fuel oil. However while they were efficient by the standards of 1930s liners, by the mid-80s they were getting a bit expensive to run and maintain. During a 1986-1987 refit the steam turbines were replaced by nine German MAN nine-cylinder diesel engines. Each engine drives an electric generator, each developing 10.5 MW of electrical power at 10,000 volts. This powerplant provided electrical power to the ship as well as powering the propellors via the two main propulsion motors, one on each propeller shaft. The motors produce 44 MW each. Maintaining the cruising speed of 28.5 knots could be done using only 7 of the engines.

The famous funnel had to be redesigned slightly to accommodate the output of the newer diesel engines, but I doubt that many casual viewers noticed.
