The New Bridge

Just another frame from this twilight scene I has laying around that I figured I'd post before I file it.

After chasing north to Pittston we stopped for a couple beers and a snack at Breaker Brewing in Wilkes-Barre before heading back south. Before heading to our airbnb in Jim Thorpe I grabbed one more shot in the absolute last light of day. I had to crank the ISO up pretty high just like last time I shot this as seen here: flic.kr/p/2m8atf6. But at least the power is better and there were no bear encounters this time!

Reading and Northern's flagship freight train the NRFF (North Reading Fast Freight) that makes a turn from North Reading to Pittston Yard six days a week is at MP 120.9 on the RBMN's Lehigh Division Mainline crossing the new bridge (opened Feb. 2020) that connects two former CNJ lines that historically never connected like this from north to the west. To read more about the bridge project check out this link: www.railwayage.com/mw/rn-opens-new-bridge/ They are passing the new signals (it was still a hand throw switch as seen in the photo from last year) at the interlocking known as Jim Thorpe Jct. (that connects with the three mile long Jim Thorpe branch in foreground which extends to an NS connection at Packerton Jct.) and pass the division post indicating the start of RBMN's Reading Division.

The same duo of RBMN SD40-2 3056 (blt. Apr. 1978 as UP 3440) and SD50 5017 (blt. Dec. 1984 as MP 5017) are leading the train back south along with four more units picked up in Pittston headed to Port Clinton.
