PORU Getting Out Of Town - a photo on Flickriver

            The ambient temp was 8 degrees but with the brutal wind whipping off Casco Bay they said it felt like -23 and I believe it!  Nonetheless being up in Portland for a couple nights of good food and even better beer I figured I'd try for a train.  Alas this is the only one I found in the form of Pan Am Railways train PORU (Portland to Rumford manifest) headed east on District 1. 

In this view from Forest City Cemetery in South Portland we see the train crossing the thousand foot long double track trestle over the Fore River on former Portland Terminal Company trackage between CPF 198 and 197 on modern day Pan Am's Freight Main.  Leading the train are MEC 383 (EMD GP40 blt. Sep. 1971 as BO 4012) in its tattered former GATX blue and white followed by Guilford gray MEC 509 (EMD GP40-2LW blt. Mar. 1976 as CN 9641) and Pan Am blue 381 (EMD GP40 blt. Dec. 1969 as SCL 1577).  Trailing is a relatively short train of 2 hoppers (presumably feed for the mill in Leeds) and 20 boxcars headed back to the paper mills.
