Southbound At Fairview - a photo on Flickriver

Continuing the chase south back to Chatsworth the next spot along the D&I main was here in the tiny hamlet of Fairview at about MP 41.7 on what was historically the thirty-seventh sub of the Milwaukee Road's Minnesota-Dakota Division in the road's last years. This is another of the many crossings of the Big Sioux River as the train leaves the state of Iowa and crosses into South Dakota on a little pony truss bridge.

Leading the heavy train are DAIR 2511, 2510, 2512 & 3021. The two leaders are EMD GP39-2s blt. Jan. 1977 and Oct. 1978 respectively as as high cabbed Kennecott Copper pit motors KCC 786 and 798. The third unit is and EMd GP50 blt. Jul. 1980 as CNW 5079 and the trailing unit is an EMD SD40-2 blt. Oct. 1978 as CP 5904.
