Number three - a photo on Flickriver

Number three

            Mixed media basket made out of items which would normally be thrown away.
This is part of a series of items which will become an installation at the National Trust property in Southwell later in the year.
I started by tearing up strips of discoloured fabrics which I then knitted into narrow strips. 
I created a coiled base and then added a structure of wooden supports out of garden prunings.
I created the sides of the basket my weaving my knitted strips through this structure and then sewing these into place.
The top rim is made of ivy prunings which I wove into a circle and I then added knotted fabric as a finishing touch.
It measures about 14 inches high and is surprisingly sturdy.
