Belgium, Kortrijk #002 Beguinage - a photo on Flickriver

            Kortrijk Beguinage
Kortrijk beguinage was founded in 1238. It was destroyed several times: in 1302 at the time of the Battle of the Golden Spurs, in 1382 after the Battle of Westrozebeke and again by the French in 1684.

The 41 cottages date back to the 17th century. 

The last beguine in the world was Marcella Pattyn (born 1920). Marcella entered the beguinage of Sint-Amandsberg in January 1941 and moved to the Kortrijk beguinage at the end of October 1960. She died in her sleep on 14 April 2013.

Het begijnhof van Kortrijk werd in 1238 gesticht. Het werd meerdere malen verwoest: in 1302 ten tijde van de Guldensporenslag, in 1382 na de Slag bij Westrozebeke en nog eens door de Fransen in 1684.

De 41 huisjes stammen uit de 17e eeuw. 

Het laatste begijntje ter wereld was Marcella Pattyn (geboren in 1920). Marcella deed haar intrede in het begijnhof van Sint-Amandsberg in januari 1941 en verhuisde eind oktober 1960 naar het Kortrijkse begijnhof. Ze overleed op 14 april 2013 in haar slaap.
