Isola Santa

            Sulle rive di un piccolo lago, circondato da boschi di castagno e da alte montagne, sorge Isola Santa, luogo incantevole di villeggiatura in ogni stagione dell'anno.
Il borgo poggia sulle rovine dell'antico hospitale, meta di sosta per i viandanti che attraversavano le Apuane, tra la Versilia e la Garfagnana. Dal 1880 la strada del Cipollaio assicura ben più agevoli collegamenti, avendo sostituito l'impervio tracciato alto-medievale che correva un tempo nel fondovalle.
Le casette di pietra, dai tetti in ardesia, sono quanto resta del nucleo originario, in parte sommerso dalle acque del bacino artificiale.

On the banks of a small lake, surrounded by chestnut woods and high mountains, stands Isola Santa, an enchanting holiday resort in every season of the year.
The village rests on the ruins of the ancient hospitale, a stopping point for travelers who crossed the Apuan Alps, between Versilia and Garfagnana. Since 1880 the Cipollaio road has ensured much easier connections, having replaced the impervious high-medieval route that once ran along the valley floor.
The stone houses, with slate roofs, are what remains of the original nucleus, partly submerged by the waters of the artificial basin.
